Mark’s 41-year career includes roles within consulting, government and industry in professional capacities that include: over 5 years in construction inspection and consulting CMT with aggregate, geotechnical, asphalt and concrete inspection and testing. 

He served eight years at the Georgia DOT Central Lab in Atlanta as Aggregate Field Supervisor and Senior Geologist within the Pit and Quarry Department and was responsible for source approvals and removals, petrographic analysis, and aggregate troubleshooting and material evaluations.

With Lehigh Hanson, he performed aggregate source explorations and reserve evaluations within 9 states ranging from CA to PA.

He authored two reports for ICAR regarding ASR and byproduct Pond Fines. He served as a contributor to the NSSGA Aggregate handbook, several ASTM committees including D18 Soil and Rock where recently he was the Technical Contact for revision of D5519, Standard Method for riprap particle size analysis and D6092, Standard Practice for Specifying sizes of Stone for Erosion Control.

Regarding TXDOT, he initiated at least three specification revisions, COTE lab analysis revision and jointly served with others in TACA pre-2014 Standard Specifications review committee and the TXAPA Aggregate and Base specification committee influencing procedures and specifications regarding cement treated materials, flexible base and
aggregates.

His past 16 years have been with Martin Marietta in QC managerial roles of increasing responsibility. For the past 12 years he has served as the Southern Region Technical Services Manager. In mid-June he will retire from Martin Marietta and leave TX to reside in either TN or NC.
