Speaker:  Dr. Katy Aughenbaugh, Associate, WJE
Topic:
Macro to Micro: How common construction problems look in the laboratory.

Dr. Katy Aughenbaugh is a concrete petrographer and materials scientist at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. in Austin, Texas. She has nearly 15 years of experience in research and materials investigations of cementitious systems. Dr. Aughenbaugh earned her doctorate in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, with a focus on fly ash characterization for use in geopolymer cements. She also spent several years researching novel materials for oilwell cementing, with a focus on offshore well cement slurries. Since joining WJE, her work has included petrographic examinations of cementitious systems including concrete, mortar, historic mortar, brick, cast stone, and more. In addition, she puts her laboratory background to use in materials evaluations including alkali-silica reaction testing, aggregate characterization, cement testing, and materials characterization using analytical test methods.

Presentation:
Focusing on the significance of combining engineering field investigations and laboratory studies in troubleshooting and solving built world problems.
